SS Cretic was an ocean liner, built in 1902 by Harland and Wolff. She was originally a Leyland Line ship, named SS Hanoverian. The Hanoverian was transferred to the White Star Line in 1906, and was renamed Cretic.
In World War I she was used as a troop transport. On April 5, 1917, Cretic transported the American Three-Hundred-Eighth Infantry Division from New York to France. Conflict occurred during boarding; two-thousand troops would have to fit on a ship built for 1,500. The troops had to sleep in shifts, and each meal had three consecutive sittings to ensure that all on board would be fed.
Following the War, Cretic was returned to passenger service. She was scrapped in 1929.
